Acne

What is it?

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. It often causes whiteheads, blackheads or pimples, and usually appears on the face, forehead, chest, upper back and shoulders.

Although acne is most common among teenagers, about 20% of all cases occur in adults. Acne commonly starts during puberty between the ages of 10 and 13 and tends to be worse in people with oily skin. Teenage acne usually lasts for 5 to 10 years, normally going away during the early 20s. It occurs in both sexes, although teenage boys tend to have the most severe cases. Women are more likely than men to have mild to moderate forms into their 30s and beyond.

Prevention

We provide a customised package to treat and control acne. We will prescribe vitamins and skincare to compliment your treatment and to achieve faster results. Here are some helpful self-help techniques to reduce inflammation and outbreaks:

  • Avoid over-drying your skin by using harsh products as this will lead to sensitivity and can cause further overproduction of oil.
  • Don’t squeeze spots as this will spread the infection and cause scarring.
  • Try to avoid heavy makeup such as concealer and foundation as it will clog the pores further.
  • Clean your skin morning and evening.
